This is Mrs. Horton’s third year with the Sun Dancers. She spent two years working with Rebecca Stover as the Assistant Director and now as the Director wants to continue the outstanding Sun Dancer traditions and success. What she enjoys most about directing the Sun Dancers is creating, working at helping young dancers become amazing performers, and spending time with young ladies willing to become excellent in everything they do. Her goals consist of reclaiming the National Champion title in San Antonio in 2006 and working to build an even stronger bond among Sun Dancers, Alumni, Parents and the Ridge.
Marijoy Horton has been married seven years to Ben Horton. This is her fifth year at FRHS. She graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1998 with a degree in Human Communication. While at ACU she was a dancer and choreographer in the annual Sing Song production as well as Freshman Follies. She taught jazz at an Abilene dance studio for two years in addition to choreographing and training individuals for pageants and theatre productions. In High School, she knew she wanted to become Captain of her high school drill team as soon as she went to the first try-out practice. She did graduate as Captain of the Haltom Highsteppers in 1994 under the direction of Kim Cardwell and looks on her drill team experience as a rewarding one. Although her family made sacrifices and the demands were sometimes strenuous, her drill team experiences continue to be a light in all of her endeavors.
